The Studio at Old Comfortable

The Studio

The Studio is a large room attached to our home, Old Comfortable. It is a private place approached by its own stairway. It has its own key so it can be locked. It offers an L-shaped space, which includes a sitting area with a view of the ocean, cable TV, a queen-size bed and an eating area. The eating area includes an under-the-counter refrigerator. It is outfitted with dishes and linens. There is no stove or kitchen sink. The bathroom is generous in size with a fiberglass shower. The working area includes a table for laptop or puzzle-making.

This space is best suited for someone looking for accommodations with more personality than a motel room, but short of a full-size house. The Studio is suitable for one or two people. (If your group has more than two people, please consider our Guest House, across the street.)

Guests are invited to share the ocean view from the crow's nest and wharf in front of Old Comfortable. There is also a public beach within walking distance and a public landing for launching a boat or kayak nearby. Kayaks may be rented in Friendship village, just five minutes away. Following a day of being on the salt water, arrangements can be made to wash off your equipment.

In the summer, a local fish store will steam lobsters for you which you can bring back to eat in the studio, or you can use the outdoor charcoal grill.

Four nights l have been happily ensconced at The Studio at The Old Comfortable. Lynn and Bill Case have hosted me on many occasions. I have stayed here shortly after my husband died (2002), when my mother at 97 was failing and I needed a few days respite, and the night Lynn called upstairs and said "I think a grandson has been born" ( 2008). In 2011 I wrote 4 chapters of a book I published (on the stack generously displayed in their Studio living room. Can you tell I am a writer. I am here for this visit to celebrate my 77 birthday and our cottage across the way was too chilly. Lucky me - I get to be here to enjoy the warm and gracious of Old Comfortable and Lynn and Bills' hospitality. The Old Comfortable Studio is one of my favorite places and Lynn and Bill Case gracious hosts Eager for another visit.

This is the Maine I was looking for
Rated 5/5
I was on a solo journey traveling around Maine and I became frustrated with the throngs of tourists I kept running into. I wanted peace, nature and tranquility, and I found it at Bill and Lynn's "Old Comfortable." I didn't realize when booking the studio how amazing the property would be. Upon arriving they gave me a tour of the grounds and I was stunned. I almost cried, it's that beautiful. It was exactly what I had hoped to find. The back looks out onto a perfect Maine cove, with islands off shore, and with lobster buoys bobbing in the waves.

As for the studio, every detail imaginable was covered, and then some! There were candies in a dish, nice paper towels (not the cheap ones), salt, pepper, even water and tea in the refrigerator. The refrigerator is a good size and all my cooler items fit in with no problem. I was traveling with all my camping equipment, so not having a stove was no problem at all. They have a lovely outside sitting area with chairs and a little table, so I popped open my camp stove and cooked right there. I even cooked a lobster! The studio was spotless, if I lay down on a floor when traveling it means that I feel like I'm at home and I certainly did there. Sitting in the chair by the window with the sound of the waves gently lapping the shore was a real treat. The wifi is spotty but I knew that going in and it wasn't an issue for me. There is a phone to use if you have any cell service issues, but my phone worked so I never had to use it. They have cable so if I felt like watching tv (and I did), there are plenty of channels to choose from. If the Internet wasn't working and I needed to look something up, I just waited to search when I ran into town (Waldoboro), which is only about 15 minutes away. There is a big Hannaford grocery store there as well and lots of great places to eat.

The neighborhood where their house and studio are located is quiet, the roads are perfect for walking, jogging or riding bikes. I went walking (going left out of the driveway) and I came upon a nature preserve open to the public with hiking trails throughout, another lucky find. Just a couple minutes away is Friendship, Wallace's general store there is like something out of a movie.

Finally, Bill and Lynn...they are the sweetest people I encountered on my whole trip. I felt like I was staying with long lost family members. They are truly unique, special individuals. They figured out what they wanted in life and they made it happen. Thank you!

Martin Point Studio
Rated 5/5
We had a great weekend. The location is a bit off Route 1 but certainly worth the short drive. The property is akin to a well kept small oceanside park, but nicer. There is a dock and platform at the edge of the water to sit and enjoy the bay (which we did) and a very short walk to a small beach. (which we also did.) The studio itself was immaculately clean with not a speck of dirt or cobweb to be seen. I was gone most of one day and my wife could not have felt more at home. If you need a hotel with a pool, bar, and restaurant then this is not for you. If you are looking for the most peaceful, clean and homey location to spend some time, then this is it. Make your reservation now because we cannot wait to go back and might take your days from you.
—Bill L., Aug 2017

Wonderful! Neat, clean, quiet, with ocean views
Rated 5/5
This is a very nice, immaculately-clean studio apartment that Lynn and Bill created over their garage. It was extremely quiet, very well appointed, and very comfortable. We had nice views of the harbor from our sitting room windows, and were also encouraged to enjoy the beautiful grounds and the pier.

The kitchen area had a small fridge, a microwave oven, a 4-unit toaster, a coffee maker etc., etc. They provided coffee, water, and other drinks. The bed is a beautiful four-poster with matching sheets, comforter, and dust ruffle. The theme is rustic/nautical with comfortable easy chairs. The floors have the wide pine boards, as in the old days, but seem to be new. The bathroom is quite large, and is well-stocked with incidentals. There is a large bureau and a large closet with plenty of room.

A nice bonus was viewing Lynn's coffee-table type books of photos she has taken of people, animals, birds, flowers, lighthouses, and other remarkable sights in the Friendship area. Lynn was too modest to mention them to us, but we found them in the studio and thoroughly enjoyed them. She has a real talent for taking beautiful photos.

Lynn and Bill are very pleasant and easy to get to know. We felt at ease with them immediately, and felt like we had made some nice friends by the time we left. They have a beautiful house on a wooded lot on the bay. We could tell that it was very important to them for their guests to feel welcome and and to be comfortable.

We are very pleased to recommend this rental to anyone who is looking for a nicely-appointed quiet, place to stay in one of Maine's beautiful coastal areas. We think you will enjoy it as much as we did!

We couldn't have asked for more!
Rated 5/5
We can't think of a more peaceful and beautiful place to spend a vacation. It exceeded our expectations. It is quiet and has a great view of the cove. Our hosts, Lynn and Bill, thought of everything to make our stay comfy and cozy. "Old Comfortable" is a great name for a perfect getaway spot. We loved it!
—Lee S., Sep 2016

This cozy hideaway is the perfect option for two!
Rated 5/5
The Old Comfortable Studio was exactly as shown. The setting was beautiful; serene wooded surroundings with a lovely view of the water. The studio was fully stocked with anything we might have forgotten in our packing and even some unexpected extras for convenience.

We enjoyed a short stroll past the gardens and landscaped yard to the dock each morning to sip our coffee and watch the sun come up. A walk along Martin Point reveals the lush and varied foliage of Maine. And our lodging included several books of Lynn's photography of the area which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Bill and Lynn were the perfect hosts... We felt as if we had the entire property to ourselves yet knew they were right there if needed. We certainly plan to return and would recommend The Old Comfortable to others planning a visit to the area.

Lovely Waterfront Location
Rated 4/5
Lovely waterfront location with view of the bay and islands. Our hosts were most gracious and the accommodations were very comfortable and clean. The only drawback is the lack of a kitchen stove and sink but this was explained in the published description of the property so there was no surprise. It put is in a position to explore the area for dining options which was fun. We saw areas we had never seen before. The Case's are lovely people and made us feel right at home: good old New England charm! We would seriously consider returning to this property to experience the separate fully equipped cottage owned by the Case's that is located across the street and on a freshwater pond. We enjoyed our stay and would encourage travelers to seriously consider this property.

Perfection for Two
Rated 5/5
If you are looking for the perfect place for two, with a view, to unwind and relax, the Studio at Old Comfortable is the spot! We found the Studio just what we were looking for - a private, comfortable and beautifully appointed lodging with just enough amenities. Plus, the best views in Maine from the "Crow's Nest" seats on their pier; the ocean, out islands and lobster boats were an ever-changing painting. Hosts, Lynn and Bill provided a warm welcome and were available to make their favorite restaurant recommendations. Our favorite was Wallace's Grocery in Friendship where good food, good conversation and needed groceries can always be found! We would recommend the Studio at Marten's Point highly and hope to return!

Comfortable, bright studio
Rated 5/5
Lynn, the owner, is very friendly and helpful. The studio, easily large enough for two people, is quite pleasant and has a comfortable bed, an eating/desk table, two nice reclining chairs in the TV area, excellent reading lights and oriental rugs on wood floors.

For a full water view, one goes down a flight of stairs through the garage and around to the back of the house. The entire property is beautifully landscaped and the flowers especially lovely. We enjoyed sitting in lawn chairs and reading.

It takes only seven minutes to walk to the beach, where we found crabs, little lobsters and fish swimming during low tide. Our grandchildren, who were staying nearby, loved it. The water was very safe for swimming or just floating around, and we met several friendly locals who swim there daily.

The only negatives were that wifi was "iffy" in the studio at times.

We would definitely go back.

Charming, peaceful retreat!
Rated 5/5
Feel so blessed to have found this little gem....very charming and peaceful. Apartment was clean and efficient. Bed sheets blow in the ocean breeze before they are ironed and put away for next renters. Beautiful grounds & flowers well maintained and views.....a short stroll brings you to a pebble beach! Lynn & Bill were super hospitable even including us on a trip on their lobster boat. We have check-marked this as one of our favorites and intend to be back soon!

Cozy and relaxing with a beautiful view!
Rated 5/5
We had a wonderful time staying at this property! It was just what we were looking for; quiet and cozy with gorgeous views and a very well kept property. The studio was small, but perfect size for two people and maintained well and stocked with just about everything we needed during our stay.

Lynn and Bill were wonderful hosts! Very friendly and sweet and always willing to offer suggestions around the area. We were able to book very easily at the last minute and it was a great place to stay overall. We look forward to making it back that way sometime in the future!

Once again a gem of a stay!
Rated 5/5
This was our 2nd trip back to Old Comfortable and again we were able to relax, disconnent and have an amazing time.

Each day we would do our 20 mile bike road along the scenic roads with views to the water, in the later morning head to the beach and of course bring amazing lobster rolls for lunch with us from Wallace's Grocery just a few minutes away. In late afteroon we would visit a long farm stand for amazing berries, corn and baked goods and then take short adventures to various local sites and back in early evening to buy our lobsters right from the lobsterman at the town dock and grill along with corn on the host's Webber charcoal grill. HINT-get the cowboy charcoal wood instead of brickettes at Wallaces to cook with.....you will never eat a lobster any other way! We enjoyed our meal by the host's dock and watch the sun set with a good glass of wine too!

Lynn and Bill are charming hosts and I strongly urge folks who want a quiet retreat for the crazy world to stay. We are already planning our 3rd visit back for next summer! Thanks so much Lynn and Bill for everything!

Charming studio with all the comforts of home
Rated 5/5
We stayed at Old Comfotable in their studio this weekend. Our room was super cute, filled with New England charm, as well as modern amenities ( flat screen TV with cable and free Wi Fi )The studio has beautiful hardwood floors and is decorated in traditional Maine style, complete with lighthouse designs on the table cloth and maps of Maine on the wall. An array of cast iron odds and ends adorn the stairs leading up to the rooms. The view did not disappoint! The grounds are beautifully landscaped leading up to a private dock. The owner Lynn was friendly, personable, and professional. She provided use with quaint stories of the area and its people, and was helpful regarding attractions and shopping. I would recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet , clean place to get away and enjoy all the beauty of Maine.

Friendly and Comfortable!
Rated 5/5
We had a lovely long weekend stay at Old Comfortable. The accomodations were wonderful and the village of Friendship was beautiful and friendly. The eagle perched in the tree outside the house, as if on cue and the early evenings on the private deck, at the water's edge were thoroughly enjoyable. Lynn and Bill are easy hosts who obviously care deeply about their home and the area they are so fortunate to live in, and are happy to share it with others. We will be heading back when time allows. Many thanks!

Lovely, tranquil retreat!
Rated 5/5
We are sadly leaving after 4 amazing days here at Old Comfortable. What I had hoped it would offer it did and more. We were able to disconnect from our very busy lives and appreciate the beauty of not only a wonderful (and incredibly clean) home and area but of a very caring hostess, Lynn! Her touches from classic New England décor, toiletry/pantry sundries, gardens and comfy linens made for a haven to relax in very easily. This was followed by suggestions of where to explore from walks, restaurants and even musical events made for a great time. I had briefly mentioned that this was a belated anniversary celebration and she gave us a beautiful card made with her wonderful photos of the local area. The greater Friendship area offers food from funky to fancy and if you are a fan of great food using locally sourced ingredients in imaginative ways then this is the place for you! Summer would be a lovely time to visit but the Fall was even more special for those looking for that little bit of extra down time we all need in our lives. We are already thinking ( or shall I say dreaming) about coming back next year for a whole week. Thank you Lynn!!

Old Comfortable is so comfortable!
Rated 5/5
We visited again this year because we had such a nice relaxing time last year! We enjoy the quiet and peaceful setting Old Comfortable offers. It is well worth the drive to get away from the crazy tourist-y spots. The lobster festival is great to visit as well as the many different area light houses and parks. Like being at home away from home! Thank you again!

Old Comfortable Redux
Rated 5/5
As is always the case, our pleasant, peaceful memories of Old Comfortable and the Martin Point/Hatchett Cove environs remain with us like a favorite film playing back frame by frame in the mind's eye. Bill and Lynn are thoughtful, generous whirling dervishes, who are very amenable to any request that would lend to the further enjoyment and enhancement of your stay. The Siren's Song (if only the ancient mariners had GPS) keeps beckoning us to mid-coast Maine and Old Comfortable where one truly enters a destination right out of the pages of "The Country of the Pointed Firs."

The location was even more amazing than we expected. The owners are great people and very helpful with recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing. The Studio was very cozy and relaxing. We enjoyed sitting by the water and letting life go by. I would give it Five Stars.

We felt like pampered guests
Rated 5/5
My husband and I stayed the weekend of Friendship Day and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The studio was perfect for our needs, with lovely views of Hatchet Cove, comfy chairs in the living area, and a bed in which we slept like babies, lulled to sleep by the clean air and sea sounds. Lynn and Bill were gracious hosts who extended themselves to help us get the most from our once-in-a-lifetime trip to Friendship. Everyone in town was so nice. Friendship is a very special place and Hatchet Cove a calming refuge from big-city hustle. Be sure to stop in at Wallace's Market and, of course, the harbor.

10th Anniversary

We had a wonderful time here peaceful and quiet. Just a short drive to many activities, but away from the crowds. Loved sitting by the water having dinner and watching the tide go in and out. It was great for my wife and I to get away and relax and enjoy nature and each other. I would highly recommend staying here!!!

Comfy accommodations in a perfect setting
Rated 5/5
We stayed a week in July while one of us attended a nearby photo workshop. What a special spot - loved the "Crow's Nest" deck overlooking the water, the well-tended gardens, the sea breezes at night, the lobster rolls from the nearby market - but especially the warmth and hospitality of the owners, Lynn and Bill. They have thoughtfully provided everything you could need for an extended stay in the studio apartment. Extra benefits: a public beach and wooded paths within walking distance. We found it to be a great spot for exploring the popular (and more crowded) mid-coast towns; it was so nice to come back to the peace and quiet of Martin's Point at the end of the day. Also, it's a great location for photography, as Lynn's own beautiful photo books can attest to.
